All you are bitchin because you don't want the limelight taken away from blacks. The worlds out to get you. You're not the only breed of human who was treated like dirt. How about focusing on a better world for everyone than who got shit on more in the past.
To be fair, the fact that we were so shit to the Irish is almost never brought up. Yet this isn't the pain-olympics. They both need to be acknowledged.
It is supposed to be about celebrating Saint Patrick driving out the last serpent from the island... the trouble is, is that Ireland never had snakes post ice age and all historical and fossil records back this up.
It is believed that the snake is an allegory for the pagan culture of Ireland, as it usually is when ancient Christianity attempted to vilify "alien" non-Christian cultures. By comparing their pagan lifestyle with the snake, and ultimately the Devil, it justified the church robbing them of their culture and heritage by "civilizing" the pagan devil worshiping heathens.
In short, Saint Patrick's Day celebrates the oppression and subjugation of an entire culture by thier invaders. All while using racist images like the leprechaun no less.
Smitty of course. Have a look at his other postings in this matter. What the posting says,. whoever is fighting against discrimination is just a weak, butthurt pussy.

Omg how does this turn into a black thing?
What about the Jewish slaves in the concentration camps? What about the fact that the Vietnamese held the American soldiers captive and tortured?
Why just PINPOINT BLACK PEOPLE WHEN SLAVERY COMES UP?! NOBODY IS LOOKING FOR SYMPATHY!!
Stop being so hateful and racist DAMN
What about all the Japanese Americans we threw into internment camps? What about all the Native Americans we forced into a small area of the country?

You're asking me questions and I was the one trying to make a point.
I'll just say this, nobody who hasn't lived during any of this has the right to complain because nobody lived through the pain they went through, it doesn't matter what race it was...they still suffered
For black folks in America today racial prejudice isn't a thing of history. You're not about to get turned down for a job interview because your name is Pat O'Brien, but you are if your name is Devonte Johnson. There have been studies that show it.

You're right about that, but I'm mixed white and black.
My dad passed away, he was white and my mom is black
Being mixed race, I still can't see why people still complain over the black and white stuff and I'm clearly proof that they got over racism a long time ago.
Someone down voted you because you told the truth
We are not taught this... I fucking hate the schools history books.... Look this whole debate on who endured more is bullshit... Dillusional bullshit... No matter what we were built to endure all of us... Yeah some groups of people are going to be more outwardly praised for the shit they went thru... And another thing if you really care enlighten yourself instead of getting offended by some fucking meme that in my opinion inappropriately stirred feelings... Peace....
SMH... Irish or Black, Asian or Jew... Every history in the history of the world has slavery. Don´t ignore racism today, just try to make it all sound as dumb and ugly as it really is--in all forms.
I know this will get down voted, but I don't care. This post is the definition of privilege. Maybe if Irish people were still dealing with the effects of slavery today then they would still be talking about it. Black people in the U.S. still deal with prejudice every. single. day. Irish people don't have to go through that anymore. No one is asking for "free stuff". Blacks are asking for the freedom to walk down the street without getting shot by police.

Yep yep yep
You got my vote.
A man just got shot in Baton Rouge for selling movies.
He had a gun in his pocket, well the cops came, tasered him while holding him down on the ground and shot him 6 times...you would think holding him down would be enough to disarm him but they just had to shoot the poor man, and horrible part about the whole thing is that the man wasn't fighting or threatening anyone with the gun.
If he had a gun, fine you have the right to be scared but they killed the man before doing ANYTHING
If there were just a germ of truth in this, people would acknowledge it, laugh and move on. But, it hits really close to home, so plenty of people are offended. Blacks still have so many problems because (as a group) they wallow in their victimhood. That's aided by plenty of Whites who want to be offended *on bahalf of* someone else. There's enormous money to be made by the Jesse Jackson types who look for discrimination everywhere and then demand to be paid off. He extorted money from NASCAR because there weren't Black drivers...not becaue NASCAR didn't allow them, but there just don't happen to be any.
In the name of ending discrimination, we have scholarships that *I* can't apply for because of my skin color, but there aren't any that a Black student can't apply for. Admissions and hiring are geared towards "increasing diversity" if Blacks can be given some spots that a non-Black is better qualified for, but I've never seen Whites/Asians given preferential treatment.
Except Irish slaves were both cheaper and a smarter way to increase your number of slaves to where it got so bad that breeding a female Irish and a black male slave was outlawed
Explain then the institutional racism against the Irish that's almost 1000 years old.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Irish_sentiment
Explain then how during the ethnic cleansing of Ireland by the Brittish how the population of Ireland between 1641to 1652 dropped by more than half.
Explain then the Irish women that were sold specificly as breeders, a practice so widespread that even in 1681 it was banned because it interfered with slave trade profits.

You're bringing in a lot of things I never brought up. The Irish of course have had a ton of shit happen to them, I'm not arguing against that. I'm arguing against the pervasive meme that the Irish had it as bad or worse than Africans during the slave trade.
There were 10.5 million African slaves sold to the Americas, vs. a liberal total of 30,000 for the Irish. 4 million African slaves died either during capture, transport, or upon arrival. The African slave trade destroyed nations and families on a much broader and insidious scale than white slavery did.
Mere numbers of slaves do not a worse treatment per-slave make. Yes, what happened to the African slaves was terrible, and there were many, but if Smitty is correct an average Irish slave had a much worse life than an average African one.
So wait, what priya was saying is that because the Irish slavery was done on a smaller scale than african slavery, its less pertinent and less of an outrage? Thats just messed up.
No I'm not. I'm saying that the meme is wrong and this whole "but Irish people were slaves too!" thing is going about history in completely the wrong way. It proposes that the Irish somehow had it worse, when that is demonstrably false. If you want, read up on the writings of Irish historian Liam Hogan, or check out his interview with the Southern Poverty Law Center. He lays it out much better than I do.
Those numbers are wrong by the way... try 300,000 in a single decade.
The "destruction of nations" you speak of is a callously thoughtless side effect.
In Ireland's case, it was the intentional cultural subjugation, destruction and ethnic cleansing of a very specific culture.
globalresearch has an agenda to put it nicely. The linked article has one only "source": opednews, quite the same agenda. Although in the "writers guide" of opednews it says "Sources and links, when you are making claims, are essential. " there is not a single source or link for anything there. If you google "irish slavery" you get links to exactly the same text and lots and lots of sites debunking that ahistorical racist bullshit. Go fuck yourself, Smitty, for taking the piss out of the irish fate for your racist agenda. Téigh trasna ort féin.
Like the one today that happened 45 minutes away from me
