Nein nein nein dammit dammit dammit, I am the grammar nazi. This is entirely unacceptable! How could I fail so badly? This calls everything I have ever said or done into question. Thank uou, I will try to improve in the future.
I'm gonna guess that the next time her spouse makes a tackle or a block the headline will read"Husband of 3 time medal winner actually did the thing."But it won't.
While I think it's poor reporting, it's not entirely unforgivable. Few people are likely to read an article about a relatively unknown person winning a bronze medal in trapshooting, who may or may not have ties to Chicago. Far more Chicagoans would be interested to read about the spouse of a Chicago Bear winning a bronze. It's not fair but that's how it is. Besides, if you took the time to read the article, it was a puff piece focusing more on their relationship than the medal.
I suppose I understand that if he's a lot more famous than her, the press will try to get people's attention by emphasizing that she's his wife rather than giving her the spotlight, since not that many people know her.
What I don't understand was the previous case where they gave the husband/trainer all credit for his wife's gold in a swimming competition. While I think that it's good to emphasize the effort trainers put into training the athletes, I bet that if he wasn't her husband, the media wouldn't say anything as they mention trainers very rarely. And I just don't understand that, he gets credit for being her husband and her trainer, but if those were two different people, the media wouldn't even mention "them". How is it even relevant to the competition, and how is it more important than her winning a fucking gold medal?
1. Someone won again.
2. Someone related to someone famous won.
Obviously they'll choose something more captivating.
