They aren't focused on the fact he is failing in school, they are focused on the improvements he is making in general. It's actually a pretty good parenting philosophy, but that is lost on the fact it's a comedy show.
I loved them as parents yeah they would fight with each other and the kids but deep down the loved all their kids and each other. And they treated their gifted son just the same as their other sons. Yeah he was smart but he was still just a kid to them their kids just being kids and keeping them out of trouble is all they cared about. Even if they only disciplined after the kids got in trouble and not educated why it is wrong before hand. They were good parents. Not every one is the braidy bunch or the picture pefect family.
