You could also say the same for 65% of the things that come from the ocean or Australia, because no holy being could have cursed the world with such horror.
Why not?
Why not reuse the same basic structures that work so well?
It's better than reinventing the wheel every time.
This says exactly nothing against intelligent design.
Well, what of vestigial organs? Like the leg bones on a whale? Would a creator so dedicated to making sure that all the details of an organ, eg a human eye, functioned just so, and then turn around, adjust the skeleton of a mammal into a functional sea creature, stare at the legs and think "pffft, they can stay..."
This is evidence for evolution, but not against intelligent design. you can't claim to know what a God would do or why... that said, the whole "fine tuned" world and intelligent design thing is total bullshit.
Thank you for (on the whole) agreeing with me, but may I point out how patronising it is to say that I can't look at all the evidence for something (that if God created the creatures by design, he did so incredibly meticulously and with such detail) against another, completely illogical action (leaving the useless legs on a whale or hell, even the little toes on humans) and say it's utter bullshit because "I can't claim to know the mind of God".
my comment wasn't specifically targeted at you, just the post. And yeah thats true but that point could still be argued, assuming an all powerful being created everything they could say he created things that why just because he fuckin wanted to and he doesnt need a reason
And again thank you; I should clarify that my comment wasn't really personal but also in regards to all who use the "you can't know the mind of God" as an argument for the illogical, absurd and completely false information that someone with half a brain could figure out as a lie. It's also the reasoning behind a lot of religious extremism.
Edit: on that note, good night, it is 3 in the morning, and we'll see if my apathy won't take over in the morning and let me let the argument die ;)
Lol well good night. And I agree with you... was just saying they could make the argument and technically not be "wrong," as stupid as it is. Similar to a lot of stuff in religion. You can't "prove" there isn't a god. (But you also can't prove there isn't invisible unicorns that we can't detect on Mars in much the same way you can't prove there isn't a god.)
Evolution is a fact. That's not really up for debate in my mind. It just doesn't prove that there is no God behind it all.
Besides, if a God created the world, there's no reason to assume that the universe wouldn't still make scientific sense.
Define Evolution!! Micro-evolution, as in variation within a 'kind' of animal, like daschunds and wolves, is scientific fact. It is observable, testable, predictable, and repeatable. However, macro-evolution and the other four types of evolution are none of these things, so they shouldn't be called anything more than assumption-heavy hypotheses. When I refer to evolution in these sorts of debates, I mean the 5 types of evolution other than micro-evolution.
About the so-called vestigial organs and limbs, many of these "useless leftovers" have been found to have very crucial functions. The whale's "leg" bones, for example:
"Male whales use pelvis bones that were well crafted for anchoring reproductive organs—not for anchoring limbs." http://www.icr.org/article/vital-function-found-for-whale-leg/
Why not reuse the same basic structures that work so well?
