Like temperature. It can be -10*c but only like... (idk the imperial system so just guessing pleas feel free to correct) 14 or so degrees Fahrenheit...
Though temperature is measured on a direct scale, the Celsius and deciBel scale are both an example of "anything goes negative if you set zero high enough." For instance, until our understanding of the universe changes, we will not be able to get below 0K in temperature.
