The absolute worst CGI that I've ever seen was in Tasmanian Devils. God that movie was awful, but in the good way.

There's this guy at the end right, and he's just survived a helicopter explosion along with this monster. They're both heavily injured and it's implied that this is the last monster. Well he's crawling away from it until it gains on him and begins eating him alive. So he pulls the shrapnel lodged in his gut and stabs the thing to death with it. He yells in victory only for another one of the things to eat him and the other monster. It was absolutely ridiculous.

Well, the first pic is an animatronic, not cgi. So that helps.

I think that is what the argument is: that the practical effect here is better than CGI today. And I would agree!

Way more practical effects than you think.

The new one used animatronics as well, but very few and they needed to look like their CGI ones. They put more focus on what they could DO with CGI than focus on "realism" affects like the first 3

that's prolly because it wasn not in fact cgi. it was an animatronic t-rex, the single most badass dinosaur in cinematic history, i believe. :D
