I'm curious - in which countries is it usual to get your groceries bagged? And do they do it in every market? Isn't it a huge waste of bags? Why not just bring your own bag and fill it?
Some places in America have it where your groceries will sometimes get bagged for you, but there's more stores coming out where you have to bag your own stuff and/or bring your own bags

And because if you're buying groceries for a family or large event, there's gonna be a lot of groceries. You'd want bags too.
I costs very little for your own re-usable bags and does a lot for the enviroment. My mum just brings like 5 bags (6 person family) whenever she shops and puts them in the cart.
I set my groceries up on the belt in a certain order, so that there's less chance of a f@ck up by the bagger. Sadly, there is no truly foolproof way of doing this.
@riyriamistborn if you know you're gonna buy a lot, just bring several bags. It's better for the environment.

You can buy them for 1€ or so at every supermarket. Don't you have them? They also sell cloth bags for only a little more.
