Its also hard on the opposite side of the spectrum, the healing that has to occur when the patient loses. A week from tomorrow will be my first birthday after my mother died, I'm not looking forward to it. And not to forget I also lost my close friend to cancer last year too.

Sorry man. He was a good egg. When you get older it seems the only person that cares about your birthday anymore is mom. Didn't know you lost her too.

I never cared about my birthday but my mom always made a point to cook one of my favorite meals every year for me even if it meant cooking for two hours, she used to make chicken dumpling soup from scratch sometimes it took her a few hours to do but it was so good and she made enough for two days. Is it wrong that all I want to do that day is be drunk off my ass?

Not really. Those are memories and traditions you will cherish your whole life, now you have the chance to give your children their own treasured memories.

Every single one of us has cancerous cells in our bodies. If you live long enough, I guarantee some of those cancer cells will survive and thrive to the point where they are detectable cancers. However, chemotherapy provides a selective pressure for cancer cells that are not effectively destroyed by those agents. So after a cancer patient completes their treatment, and no more cancer cells are found, the chemotherapeutics have wreaked havoc on their normal body cells and clonal populations of chemoresistant cancer cells are afforded the opportunity to gain a good foothold and thus recur. Both the disease and the current treatments are really shitty.

i've been told the fear of a reccurence is even worse. you may beat cancer but you continue fearing it might return for the rest of your life. apparently the regular check-ups are literal hell.

No longer being sick. Yeah, that's fucking horrible. I hope I never have to go through that hell. I'd much rather feel miserable for the rest of my life than have the chance to get better. You cancer people come up with some of the dumbest shit passed off as insightful.

What the fuck. Did you even read the post? Yeah, they're better and that's great, but beating cancer takes a lot of energy, and now they need help from friends and family to get their strength back. Just because there are no more cancer cells, it doesn't mean they go back to being 100% automatically.

They never go back to 100%. Ever. No matter how much they want to and try.

Theres plenty of bullshit out of there. This isn't it. I don't know anyone who's had cancer, but this seems really true. They certainly make a very good point.

They're not "no longer sick." They just no longer currently have cancer. There's still the part where they've been violently poisoned, or repeatedly burnt with radiation, usually for over six months. "Not in immediate danger of dying" and "not sick" are different things.

Radiation from breast cancer treatment seriously scars you lungs and makes everyday semi-strenuous activities difficult and many recreational activities impossible.
