Don't see what the big deal is. You could very well believe God created the universe by starting natural processes that would result in what we have today. Unless you're the kind of mentally challeneged creationist that thinks the earth was created some couple thousand years ago and take the bible literally.
So? The Catholic Church has been rather open minded and progressive over the past 100 years.

I may be an Athiest, but I frame it like this and I have mentioned it similarly to the devout.
The creator did grant us not just free will, but also with curiosity. I think then, that one of the greatest forms of praise one might pay to Him, is to explore the majesty of His creation. To see, document and communicate the splendor of nature. Much of His word is written... but there is so much more that isn't; it is there for us to see if we just only look.
