To the people who commented negatively towards pitbulls, you are very wrong. You're playing into media about pitbulls, they are actually very loveable dogs. The most aggressive dogs are small dogs. Please before you just go with what ypu saw on the news about a pitbull actually do some research before speaking.
Pitbulls are subjected to AWFUL abuse. Most people dont know how to handle them and they ONLY atrack out of fear ESPECIALLY is they are adopted pitbulls. Please do research. Learn.
It's all about the owner and how they raise the dog.

My grandmother has a pit bull who was adopted. She was abused as a pup and ended up in our care, now this massive muscley dog is the sweetest creature in existence. She thinks she's a lap dog and howls until you rub her or hug her or give her some love. When shown love these dogs can be taught that not all humans are cruel... if the dog can learn this, how is it that people can't?
I adopted a pit from the kill shelter in 2009. He was the best little old man ever. One day I was walking him with my boyfriend and he got loose and took off. He came back whimpering and running away. The park we went to was over a large hill and a lady had slipped down it and hurt her ankle. My dog sensed her and ran to her. My boyfriend helped her back up the hill and we called an ambulance.
Another time my dad was walking him and the dog pulled towards a lady who was sitting on a park bench crying and managed to cheer her up. He loved people and hated when they were hurting.
I ended up giving him to a friend when I moved. He's still the best thing ever.
I went to a local pet store and asked a question about Pit Bulls. The owners snapped at me saying the breed was trash and disgusted that anyone would want a Pit bull. It really turned me off from ever going back to their store. I've personally never met a bad Pit. Even had a neighbors Pits walk me home once.
71% of fatal dog bites are caused by pit bulls... and they make up 6% of the dog population. They are nowhere NEAR as aggressive as a lot of other dog breeds though, it's just that when they do attack, it's a viscous attack. Golden retrievers bite more, but they don't bite multiple times, don't go for the neck, and don't have nearly the jaw strength. No dog bites more than a dachshund, but they can barely do damage to a baby.
In my experience, it's poodles who are the worst... they have some fangs on them and are nearly as pissy as dachshunds. They aren't even fun to be around.
The majority of deaths and serious injuries to people are caused by pit bulls. The overwhelming majority of deaths and injuries to other animals (pets, livestock) are caused by pit bulls. All the stories, slogans, invented myths (nanny dogs, America's dog), and cute pictures won't change the fact that these dogs exist solely because of their tenacity when fighting.

You're right about that. There's a reason it's called a pit bull. Though, like bulldogs and Tibetan mastiffs, the personality of breeds can change over time.

They can be loving dogs. Most of these deaths are either caused by one of three things:
1) Rabies.
2) They felt threatened or nervous
3) Bad Past(like dog fighting, abuse, or the worst of all, a bait dog)
What I was trying to get at is that that's how pit bulls used to be. In the past they were like that but they changed as they got mixed with other breeds.
The only dog i'm really afraid of isn't the pitbull or the german shepherd, is the Argentine Dogo, big badass motherfucker, this boy killed a Puma to defend his owner and the kids.

Dogo Argentinos were bred to hunt boar and puma, if you wanted to know
Pit bulls don't have as high as a bite rate as you'd think. The Golden Retriever bites more every year than a Pit.
Edit: It also comes down to ownership. Of course you're going to hear more about pit bites because of the rap they have, you never hear about small dogs biting when they are bad about biting.
.
A pit isn't for a first time dog owner, it needs an experienced hand. Aggression in them can come from the owner not knowing how to properly train them. They're also more likely to be abused than other breeds.
