Game theory was good but now they just create random theories out of nowhere with no context. But hey, whatever you want if you want to believe sonic is a sex offender.
clearly the creator’s intentions do not count when it comes to SJWs on Tumblr
e) to phantom downvoter, i was being sarcastic. i figured that was obvious considering the fact that this post clearly has the ideal i displayed being shut down, but i guess it flew over your head. That must suck.
Even if these themes were not intended, they still do come through in tiny aspects. Yubaba means hot water woman which is a euphemism for a bath house brothel owner back in those days, obviously this is something that gets lost in translation and is outdated slang but the name and its meaning still stands. Just because something was made for children doesn't mean every aspect is pure, its not really touched on in the movie, but this adds to the realism of these bath houses which was an important aspect in making sprited away. The movie does not revolve around the sex trade, it is a movie for kids, but it still can be assumed these sorts of things are going on behind the scenes by how characters behave. Is the movie about sex? No, but you cant say "its a complete fucking lie" as this may be an underlying aspect whether in was intentional or not.
Besides, it is a mistake to believe that Japan won't necessarily include brothels, etc. in a kids' story. Maybe not as a turning point or a major thing, but just as a part of life that exists/existed.

I dunno why but I thought that Yubaba was an interpretation of Babayaga
I'm not sure if I spelled it correctly.
I just don't understand why people like to add their interpretations of it when it was never intended that way. It's like when you're doing English Lit and it says in the book "the door was blue" and the teacher says that the door is blue to represent the characters sadness, when actually no the door is blue because the author picked a colour at random. The same principle applies. It's the same with Art.
The point of art is that you assign meaning to it. The meaning someone else assigns to it may not be the same meaning that you do, and that's okay because your enjoyment of a thing shouldn't be based on theirs. Just love the parts and themes and theories that appeal to you and let other people do the same. No need to get rude

Yes but there's a difference between assigning your own meaning to something where it's up for interpretation and assigning our own meaning where nothing is up for interpretation and the product is as presented.
I've been arguing with friends about this for weeks
