The response doesn't account for interest accumulated. At 1% APR, he would passively gain $85 million per year, and that's a very conservative number, considering the number of people who want to invest with his massive $85 billion. He could probably command an interest rate of 3-5% pretty easily. Supposing he gets that 5% APR (in just one lump investment, completely undiversified, nothing invested in stock portfolios, nada), he would passively earn 1/2 a billion dollars every year.
It's probably a more complex calculation than $85 billion - $10 million every day.
