Then get a cake somewhere else? Like if you're getting one from a big chain store that's one thing. But honestly, what would you do if someone said that they couldn't accommodate your dietary habits like no dairy, wheat, etc? You'd go to another one and take your business elsewhere. In America ( which is where most of this stuff takes place) you have the freedom to take yours business elsewhere just like they can refuse your business. They don't owe you anything.
Okay but you have to remember, all they wanted was a wedding cake. The only reason they were turned down was because they were gay: that's discrimination. It's just as bad as turning down someone your service because they're another skin colour as you.
I get that, but a lot of times it's because they don't agree with gay marriage. They're not saying you're not allowed to get a cake at all, they just don't want to make one for a gay wedding. If you wanted a birthday cake and happened to be gay, they'd probably still bake it because they're making a birthday cake not one for something they don't think is right, and they wouldn't know your sexuality at all. And while discrimination is wrong, you can't force them to bake it for you or to serve you, otherwise you could get people who demand a service and claim they we're denied because of discrimination when it wasn't that at all.
In America we support your right to be an asshole. Under current federal laws, gays are not protected from the right to refuse service as a whole. It only protects his or her race, color, religion, national origin or disability. Unfortunately, sexuality is not included in that - for now. It's actually sad that it even needs to be made a law.
Personally, even if the bakery changed their mind and agreed, I wouldn't trust anything they made, and I sure wouldn't eat it. Just take your business, and money, to someone more deserving
The point isn't the cake, it is the marriage they don't agree with. If it was a b'day cake for a gay person a Christian should act as normal. They are perfectly within their right to refuse to make a cake for something they don't agree with.
On a personal level yes its totally fine as long as you affect no one else with your beliefs.
But since its the same as a business saying whites only, no. Racism was a christian defence. The bible is rife with slavery, misogeny, all manner of what we consider wrong these days. We evolve over time. This is just societys current battle over what amounts to the same thing.
I think its your business its up to you you don't want to sell to blacks or gays you shouldn't have to but you won't be in business long that way. But that's not what this crap is about its about getting attention if they really didn't want to sell cakes its easy you put up a sign " its your special day one of the most important in your life I hate gays but im forced to make you a cake how good of a job do you think ill do?" now I don't know about others but id take my business some place else and again there not going to be in business long.
Luckily we have plenty of open minded people now to call any business that does something like that And give them some death threats. We have some right-inking people who could cause everyone else to be forced to behave as if they're open minded as well. It's abhorrent for any business to withhold doing business with other people just because they don't like them; so what we need to do is withhold our business from anyone who does things we don't like to drive them out of business.
They people probably don't hate gay people as a whole, they just aren't comfortable with making a cake for a gay marriage, which is just fine. I personally don't support that, but you are allowed to think that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, because they're religious. If they told the couple that homosexuality is a sin and they would burn in hell, then kicked them out of the store, then this argument would make slightly more sense
