Yeah those things aren't indigenous, are adversely impacting both the mammal and bird populations of the Everglades and only have two predatory enemies, Man and Alligators.
Classic american accepting only a part of the blame when it's all on you, people shouldn't be keeping 15 ft snakes as pets you fuck! Excuse my profanity but damn it's all your fault even if katrina released them stupid americans is the cause of this issue nothing more nothing less
at that size, the only predator they have is man. At 17 ft they can kill an alligator like a grown man choking an infant. Also, it wasn't Katrina, it was Andrew.
I love snakes, I really do, but these things are a fucking problem.
To all the people saying that it’s sad/cruel: It’s unfortunate but they’re an invasive species that are devestating the FL wildlife population. Don’t get mad at animal control get mad at the idiots who bought a pet python, couldn’t take care of it, and then dumped it in the woods in FL. Before you feel bad remember that a 17’ python could easily eat you, your child, or your pet.
Then they should have just killed it and gotten rid of the body like they do with dogs that have stayed in the shelters for too long or like with any other unwanted animals
Not open it up like that!
I'm fairly sure they opened it up to further research on the reproductive capability of the Burmese Python. As you can see, it's on a table in a clean area and the person has on gloves. If it had simply been a cruel person showing off their hunting trophy they would have opened it up in the field with a hunting knife and it would have been surrounded by mud and tall grasses. Like people who take a picture of a dead lion on safari.
Who gives a fuck the things dead what does it care?

See, before I read this comment, I was under the impression it was indigenous. Most people only know the invasive species from their own area, if they know any at all. Where I live for example, a lot of American fish are invasive. However, they are exotic looking with funky patterns so people get upset when you kill them

Its a Burmese python. No pythons live in the Americas, only boas like the green anaconda or boa constrictors do.
Last I checked they are an invasive species because people kept them as pets or they were in zoo's then when hurricane Katrina hit it let them loose. But yes the display is a bit much.

They're not putting on display, they're opening her up to see if she had eggs. They do that with all females. This time they decided to take a picture.
they are damn near the most catastrophic invasive species on land in north america. snakes are awesome and all, but fuck them. There's also no way to actually get rid of them fast enough, they breed WAY too fast and their territory is just expanding as it gets warmer. The only two animals I can think of that have caused such ecological destruction outside of man are the cane toad and lionfish. Florida gave us this and the lionfish. Fuck FL.

You fucking killed that poor creature and its babies
And you just have the heart to put it in display
