So the gender pay gap is tiny and the product of a large number of different causes some of which might be attributable to gender discrimination and some of which are attributable to people's choices.
Sounds about right.
Have you actually seen the video? Just because it's more complex than what a comedian is wrapping up doesn't make the life income gap a myth. Why are mens job choices paid better than womens? (<-- not even asking who/what makes women take certain jobs) Why doesn't being a housewife and raising kids add to a pension, or iow why is unpaid work unpaid?
"Why are mens job choices paid better than womens?"
You'd probably have to be specific about which job, other than stuff like men being more likely to negotiate pay.
"why is unpaid work unpaid?"
...Because no one's paying them to do the work. Who do you think should pay them?

I always read women make less money because they choose less paid jobs. Engineers make more money than nurses. Teachers make less money than IT guys. Why is that? In a society where more income is generally equaled with more importance, doesn't that mean engineers and coders are more important than nurses and teachers? You believe this is how it should be? And as to your question, I believe that society should pay for unpaîd work if society benefits from that work. You don't think society benefits from parenting, or women taking care of elderly and/or sick relatives? Women who do this kind of unpaid work are depending on men when they are old, cause they cannot build up a pension, like men can do with their paid work. You believe this is how it should be?

Society does benefit from it, but if you actually got money for being a stay at home mom, it would mean two things:
1. That parents cannot sufficiently take care of their children
2. People will have children (especially those obsessed with the child lottery) just for the money.
1. If a woman works before she has children, she may have a pension/IRA/other retirement savings from that work so that can be saved for retirement.
2. My husband depends on me to do my unpaid work and I have no problems depending on him to do his paid work to provide for us because we function as a family unit money wise. It isn't about us individually, it's about us as a family. I don't see that as a bad thing. My unpaid work provides value for my family by saving whatever money we would otherwise be spending if we hired someone to do my work. The value is in money saved as opposed to earned.
Sorry if that was a bit rambling. It's bedtime for me.
"In a society where more income is generally equaled with more importance, doesn't that mean engineers and coders are more important than nurses and teachers?"
More income is generally equated to more value (because that's what money is), not necessarily importance.
"You believe this is how it should be?"
I believe people should be paid what their employers agreed to pay them. If the amount a school board agrees to pay to employ a teacher happens to be less than the amount that NASA agrees to pay to employ an engineer, that's fine.
"I believe that society should pay for unpaîd work if society benefits from that work."
Do you think society should compensate anyone who gives to charity as well? Just because someone chooses to benefit society doesn't mean society owes them. They are a part of society, after all.
"Women who do this kind of unpaid work are depending on men when they are old, cause they cannot build up a pension, like men can do with their paid work. You believe this is how it should be?"
Women choose to do the kind of work they do, and men choose to do the work they do, so, yes, I think that's how it should be.

"I believe people should be paid what their employers agreed to pay them. " - Look, I get it, you're apparently not really interested at all in any of the topics you're addressing. But please show a little more effort than that. You're either a troll or a person that Ebenezer Scrooge would find revolting. I'll try to remember to ignore you in the future.

"you're apparently not really interested at all in any of the topics you're addressing."
I am interested. How was that not an appropriate answer? I can expound a little if you want, and add that I don't think there's any sort of "appropriate" comparison between the wages of different jobs because wages are just an agreement between an employee and an employer. The difference between what some of those agreements are and what other agreements are have no reason to correlate to anyone's idea of what those correlations should be.
You could also address the other things I said in that post, or are those answers no good as well?
It is true that women earn less than men, but here's the catch, it's not dependent on jobs. It's aggregate wage. If you add all the wages of all men and all the wages of all women, and compare the two. That's what we get. It doesn't take into account the jobs women are taking and the jobs men are taking.
Sounds about right.
