Actually, it's quite true. A lot of peoplr in the LGBT+ community want attention and claim they're oppressed, but there are openly gay students in my school and I have never seen them get beat up, at all.
Based on something that happened to me as a fifth grader that my school very effectively quashed/covered up, I have a nasty suspicion that the reason there was a long standing tradition at school of coming out of the closet within 2-3 months after graduation had something to do with a bit of a cover-up tradition.
So, a few members of the LGBT community, in one school, have not been physically assaulted, and that somehow mitigates LGBT discrimination?
That's like saying global warming is a hoax because it snowed in Colorado. I mean, that's absolutely fantastic to hear about your school, don't misunderstand me. But that is the exact same narrow vision logic the OP has.
Discrimination is not limited to one type or style. And just because one person or place had experienced a remote amount of decency, that dosent mean it's the same in all areas.
I know, I just wanted to state that they are kissing and cuddling in school and nothing has ever happened to them. Of course this is only one place, but it shows how our society is changing to be more open and accepting
I feel like Shime is firing at me too; Let me say that I, personally, have never seen iy happen. It's not like I don't believe in it, it just means as Spanish Guy said, our society is changing.
I watched a gay guy beat up quite a few people while I was in HS. There were 10-12 gay people @ my HS (out of around 600)... nobody got beat up over it. We'd make jokes all in jest, just like you'd probably take a few jabs if you were jewish, white, black, indian, muslim, whatever... we were teenagers. Teenagers are the meanest people on the planet and will find ANYTHING that is roast-able and proceed to roast you over it. This one dude made it known he was scared of elevators... know what happened? After lunch he was forced into the elevator.
On one hand, saying that anecdotal observations aren't valid with regards to discrimination and whether or not it occurs, isn't the opposite also true? If anecdotal evidence of a lack can't be used to find that instances are outliers, then anecdotal observations of discrimination also can't be used to prove that there is discrimination.
You can't discount one without discounting the other as well. So while there may be instances of discrimination, the original post also has very a valid point, demanding acceptance based on an identity is very different than getting respect as a person first and not being completely submerged by that identity.
I, myself, am rarely ridiculed for being gay and trans, but I know many of my peers who are. Most of the ridicule comes from their families. Trust us, its still very prevalent.

Well of course the parents descriminate, your parents are always going to ridicule you for something. My parents keep ridiculing me because I have a pet rat.
Discrimination is not limited to sneers and judgemental looks from others.
Discrimination is not being secure in your right to marry who you choose.
It's not being allowed to pee in a public restroom without fear of violence or arrest.
It's being suspended from school because a staff member found out you were in a same sex relationship.
It's having someone in the White House that believes in and advocates electrocuting you until heterosexual.
You may not have experienced these things, and that is absolutely wonderful, fantastic and relieving. But, regardless of your own narrow vision, I will continue to fight for you and those like you. I will continue hoping for the above stated, all too common, facts to be diminished. I will fight and hope for equality and decency for all... Even though it *dosent much concern you*.
You do know that Mike Pence doesn't believe in electroshock therapy for homosexuals, or even conversion therapy, right? Even Politifact has walked this back. The exact quote was made in 2000: "Congress should support the reauthorization of the Ryan White Care Act only after completion of an audit to ensure that federal dollars were no longer being given to organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus. Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior."
Gavin Newsom, started interpreting that to mean that he was referring to conversion therapy, and the worst of it being electroshock therapy because hyperbole is the best way to denigrate an opponent, when he was really referring to programs supporting safe sex practices. He advocates abstinence first, but supports other programs as well.
