Easy answer. He's different. A political outsider. We didn't want a worse Bush or Obama, we wanted someone different. We got that, and now the man's doing good work for America by reaffirming our independence, strength, helping those who help us, and cutting out the regulations that were surely strangling every small business while scaring the big ones out.
Look beyond the memes and the bullshit and you'll see he's actually doing good work.
Or if you're cynical, you could say he won because the only alternative was leagues worse than Trump could ever be.
Yep. We certainly didn't get a "worse Bush", just a guy that makes Republicans and Democrats alike yearn for the days of Dubya...
*looks past the rest of the bullshit ;) *
Good for them. Maybe it has something to do with us not giving them free money, protection, and favors anymore. Like when the kid with the ball wants to go home, but the other kids think they're entitled to keep the ball.
Orrrr it has something to do with our original leader status in global efforts against climate change, and us attempting to shuffle our role in it off giving other countries an excuse to ignore it as well, which may kill literal millions of people down the line, solely because our leadership wants to pander to the agenda of a few large companies and the people who think the coal industry is somehow magically going to revive.
Trump isn't pandering to anyone, all he's doing is letting the American people decide. If enough people want the change, which they do, then we can effectively accomplish the same thing, just without giving American dollars to every country that considers maybe thinking about considering the issue in 20 or 30 years.
The problem is that the U.S. changing *by itself* is going to mean India and China have an excuse to back out of the talks, and the U.S. changing by itself is going to have an economic incentive not to change, because if we're taking climate measures, we're severely handicapping ourselves in the short term against economies that aren't. We also won't have nearly the environmental impact that's needed if China and India, which have tremendous population and impact, back out, because the entire point of the talks is that the *world* has to get on this shit, not just the ostensibly "developed" economies.
China and India aren't gonna play ball anyways, and we cannot afford to handicap ourselves while boosting countries that won't.
Green tech will keep developing, and will eventually overtake fossil fuels.
Think realistically, is a country where people shit in the streets really gonna do anything else but take our money and use it to boost themselves with more viable fossil fuels?
It's not our job to save everone. If anything, we should be pushing to leave this rock and let everone else fuck off.
You can't help people who won't help themselves.
Is that what you call "protecting American dollars and interests"?
When even countries like Venezuela, India, Syria and North Korea are signing on, it may be a sign that the nations that can actually take care of themselves are about to get screwed.
Has it ever occurred to you that the world may need to work together to a degree instead of just countries separating themselves and only taking care of their citizens like a bunch of narcissist assholes? America still isn't great, and it won't be under trump, deal with it.
There's too much shit going on right now to just focus on America, and if you don't want to acknowledge that, that's your choice to be ignorant to rest of the world.
If other countries can't handle themselves, they can either play by the rules of those who can, or they can fuck off and hope they get lucky.
America is great, the problem is that we need to remember what made us great in the first place.

To Famousone,
Okay. I respect you guys discussing your country's politicos, but if you don't know things about other countries then please don't talk shit about it.
Yours Spooky.
America relies on other countries as well, how else do you think we get the majority of our products, including gasoline? The American economy would be even more shit than it already is without other countries support. We pat your backs just as much, if not more than you pat the rest of the world's. America is not the center of the world, and it's not the only thing that matters, I don't think you realize that.
Seriously, America's world economic role is primarily as a currency benchmark and a culture exporter. We are REALLY dependent. We need more manufacturing, but even after that happens, we're going to need those relationships for stability and because let's face it, the labor costs may need to rise to pay people fairly? But Malaysia has that microchip shit DOWN.
Have you never heard him talk, sero? He pulls this shit all the time.
I'm pretty sure he has mild dementia, at the very least. Of course, this is on top of likely being a sociopath, so the only question now is how wacky thing are going to get before the rest of the government decides it's time to try their luck with Pence. *cringe*
