When people say " is everything offensive these days? " its usually about how people are acting like their feelings should be law and if you disagree obviously you need to die a horrible death immediately, not them being bigots ( though I won't deny that happens as well)
I've seen more the other way, using it as an excuse to shut down people for things they don't like rather than actual offensive/racist actions or opinions. But hey, experiences differ.
Feelings make bad law, and hard cases make bad law. ie. The letter of the law should be made to accommodate the vast majority of cases and let judges decide when the spirit of the law has been violated.
See I'd only joke around like that if I was with my close friends and the jokes were about them (and in good taste). I'd also stop if they told me to or looked sad etc.
Lot of stuff has always been offensive, and not in a trivial way. Just now people are starting to stand up for themselves.

Yeah, since white people with dreadlocks is racist.
Or black people getting shot because they can't follow rules(and even if that wasn't the case, that is few and far between), or hating white people for existing and (for some reason) straight people is racist and homophobic.
Of course, they weren’t totally innocent like people make them to be. They just didn’t deserve death. And dreadlocks can be worn by anyone, it’s a hairstyle. Stuff like that is trivial.

Real racism(Actually hating another race, racially -motivated police brutality) need to be focused on, but these shitty issue(aforementioned) are making it harder.
It makes me not want to take people seriously. Like when people freaked out when a guy used yellowish makeup to dress a Kim Jong Un. It’s not like they were dressing as a stereotypical China man or something.
