Let's say you owe me money that I let you borrow to pay for dinner (You looked great on our date btw). I let you figure out how much you owe the next day and pay me back the $20. It was actually only $10, but I don't say anything. Did I just steal money from you? This is the scenario with paying your taxes in America. They know exactly how much you owe them, but they let you figure it out. If you pay too much, they keep the extra. You pay too little, you get fined to hell and possibly imprisoned.
Okay so the government takes the money. Okay okay, I don't like people taking my money but whatever
And we need to fix the road, get a better dam, improve the healthcare systems
And guess what the government do, the build a fucking statue, an ugly ass statue that cause millions of taxes
Not to mention people working in the government which pay very low somehow get rich so freaking fast
So yea, they're stealing shit
"Doesn't give you good life opportunities" They give you the freedom to make your own opportunities and carve your own path. I'm not saying we all start off equally in life but you have every opportunity to make it in life if you try hard enough. Take a look at Ben Carson as an example. Grew up dirt poor and got to where he was today by his own will.
You are looking at the exception and claiming that the rule doesn't exist. A few people had a good life, sure, but you are forgetting the thousands that couldn't.
Also the idiot known as Ben Carson should be looked at with pity. He hates gays, believes the planet is only a few thousand years old, and believes in magic. Hardly what most consider to be a model human.
I'm not talking about Carson's personal beliefs, because those don't discredit his accomplishments. And It's not the job of the government to give us everything we want and put us all on equal pedestals. I realize there will always be people who oppose this view and I likely won't convince anybody here but I believe America has one of the best income mobilities and you can make it big if you devote yourself to it.
The government's job, in the United States of America, is to let people take care of themselves.
We are a nation built on independence, liberty, and the violent preservation of both.
The government is only meant to get involved when someone else tries to interfere with that.
You obviously never paid attention in government. It is the duty of the government to protect its people. That's how it works. People give up personal liberties in exchange for protection and a fair chance at life. It's a fundamental agreement that is found in every civilized country.
I got a B in AP Gov, not to mention my training in criminal justice and my own research. I feel like that indicates I'm familiar enough with my nation's history and laws to know what my government's founders wanted.
Carson may be a great surgeon, and he should have stuck with that, but otherwise he's is a complete moron. He's like the poster boy for specialized intelligence.
And can someone please fucking explain to me how a neurosurgeon became Secretary of Housing and Urban Development? Literally the only relationship between the two I can see is highways can be metaphorical for neuro-pathways (even then that's a stretch, since neuro-pathways can go in many different directions at once).
Anyway, for the other point... The government's first job is to protect the people, correct, but in the US that doesn't mean giving up liberties, it was kind of first meant to streamline the logistics of resource allocation so we could best protect ourselves and interests... we kinda fucked that up.

Net neutrality is the good.
This god damned 'Freedom for the internet act' is the bad one. It has a misleading title so you don't realize your mistake in supporting it.
