The way I understand it is that sex is biological: male or female. People usually refer to chromosomes, but even those are more complicated than that, there's XXX or XYY etc, but for the sake of the argument let's simplify it and say that sex is based on chromosomes, and it's either XX or XY.
Gender is based on how your brain is wired, which usually corresponds with your sex but sometimes doesn't, hence transgender people.
And gender roles are 100% a social construct. Whether you have a penis or vagina shouldn't dictate what you do in life. Seriously, recently I went to the toy store to get some plushie for my newborn niece and the girl section was only fake cooking and housework supplies, meanwhile the boys section ranged from superheroes and other pop culture icons to fake tools to fake guns and swords and weapons and armors... it made me a bit sad.

I have a question though, do you guys think that gender is binary or a spectrum? I personally think that it's binary and transgenderism is just a brain-chromosome mismatch BUT since it doesn't dictate what you do anyway, why bother with all these gender identities? I think that maybe some people who now don't know what to identify as were just raised in conservative families who tried to force gender roles onto them but they weren't comfortable with those roles. Personally, as a kid I played with cars, LEGO blocks and video games and I was (still am) kinda tomboyish but I do identify as a woman, and I really see no conflict there because the fact that I am a woman shouldn't dictate my interests anyway. However I have never met anyone who's non-binary so I have no idea what these people feel like, and I don't want to sound like an ignorant insensitive prick so if anyone has any experience with this and is willing to share, I am willing to listen and possibly change my opinion.

I'm a psychologist and here's what research on gender says: gender is a social construct, based on how an individual reacts to the roles, expectations, and norms in their society. It's on a spectrum (many things in psychology are now considered to be on a spectrum because humans are rarely black and white). Where you are on the gender spectrum can change from day to day. People who are non-binary can fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, feeling like they are neither masculine or feminine but having traits of both.
" People who are non-binary can fall somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, feeling like they are neither masculine or feminine but having traits of both. "
But masculine and feminine are more gender roles, not feelings. That's basically like saying " well this girl doesn't like makeup or girly clothes so obviously she doesn't identify as a girl because she's more masculine than feminine. " like is everyone forgetting about tomboy and metrosexual?
And I'm gonna need some proof you're a psychologist before you can use it as some sort of gotcha.
Wait so then what is the difference between gender and gender roles? How can one identify as something when the roles connected to it are a social construct anyway?
There is a difference in liking boyish things and identifying as a boy. As cisgenders Identifying as a gender different from our cisgender is something we struggle to understand.
I used "masculine" and "feminine" to refer to a set of traits usually interchangeable with "man" and "woman." And someone who enjoys masculine things doesn't have to identify as masculine, because what you like and what you are can be separate. I was trying to be as non-definite as possible when describing non-binary people because there is a paucity of research in that area and I don't want to make unsupported claims about peoples' identities. I wasn't trying to use my job as a "gotcha," but rather setting myself up as someone qualified to synthesize research for a wider audience. Anyone is welcome to do this research for themselves but psychology journals tend to be inaccessible for the public (behind paywalls, overly-complex language, etc).
They were also traders, bodyguards, explorers, pretty rad craftsmen, fishermen and survivors of winters without any sunrise. But yeah they were pretty horrible people when raiding and such.
We can say all, to be fair. Practically all women used to know how to handle a sword and shield since they had to protect the villages when the actual warriors were gone
When encountering a new person across the counter at the market with a long line should the butcher ask, “What can I get you ma’am?”, or should he start by asking how you “feel” you should be addressed?

Your sex is biological, your gender is how you feel.
