When I do that, the folder picture gets a thin, faint, grey border box.
So... Fuck.

Yeah, that don't work. Specifically the alt 0160 part anyhow it just reverts back to new folder.

Tried several times as soon as I hit enter it reverts, I kept holding alt the whole time, I do have shitdows 10 so maybe they patched that feature.

When you go to rename the folder use the Windows 10 character map. You can find it by searching in the Start menu. In it, there are invisible characters that you can copy and paste as the folder name. This will give you a no name folder

Well, then I'd tip my hat to you but I can stand wearing them. Now I have a folder on my cluttered as hell desktops I will likely never be able to find. Thanks.

If you want to have it hidden it's better to just put a period at the end of the folder name.

you can do this on a mac as well, but in a different way, it is great for hiding files in a school owned laptop

Press the window button, click run..., type cmd and press enter, use cd to navigate to desktop, type dir and press enter. Will show a list of all folders on desktop.
