Oh well then yeah, as long as at least one parent is a citizen, their child is automatically a citizen ( unless their child was born before they gained citizenship), so since she's an American actress any kids they have can technically be a US president
Okay so apparently the US wouldnt recognize their dual citizenship, so unless they assume full american citizenship ( I believe it was by age 16) they won't be american citizens if they're born out of the country, and I'm assuming they'll be living in the UK, meaning Meghan would have to gain citizenship by living there for at least 5 years, and after that I think the kids wouldn't be able to get american citizenship? Or at least that's what I'm getting from reading further.
Also maybe something about her having to give up american citizenship if she assumes a title like how Kate became a duchess.
@diyrogue It certainly seems to violate the intent of the "natural born citizen" criterion, which was to prevent a president from having divided loyalties.
I'm pretty sure both the US and England wanted to avoid possibility of mixed leaders? Not like mixed race but like so the US wouldn't end up with an English president and England wouldn't end up with an American royal or title?
Probably. It would be facinating to see how it all shook out.
Interesting enough that it is something I've written about in the history of my science fiction world. A single president and a single monarch meet at an official state function of some fashion. They hit it off and in a big way. They soon begin hosting each other at Camp David and Windsor Castle on their vacations.
Both political pundits and tabloid rumor mill kick into high gear... marrage, UK/US unification, the whole lot.
At a joint conference, they announce a joint colonization initiative with the intent being the birth of a new and eventually independent nation: the United Kingdom and States Alliance, UKASA. A nation loyal to the Constitution and recognises the authority of the Crown.
What? I was talking about the monarch and the president announcing that they were getting married at the end of their press conference, downplaying it by preceding it with the colonization announcement.

Aah. I thought you were getting married.
Nvm. Politics bore me
You can't be a dual citizen and run for the presidency. I'm not sure how the British monarchy works entirely so it may be possible for them even if they renounce their British citizenship. Also the kids would have to be born on US soil, either a state or a territory to be eligible.
Also maybe something about her having to give up american citizenship if she assumes a title like how Kate became a duchess.
We are allies after all.

And oh yeah, we're getting married too.
