Well if you live in Europe it's probably like if you had to have a passport to go from state to state. So you don't need one unless you're leaving the country and unless it's Mexico or canada you need to fly. So it's kind of unnecessary to have one all the time unless you're travelling all the time ?
I didn’t get one until I was 23. I had no need for it. They’re expensive and there’s no reason to spend the money unless you’re traveling out of the country

Within central europe you don't need a passport to travel from country to country, at least not in the so-called Schengen area.

Not really central Europe, more just all of Europe with the exception of Russia and a few other far eastern countries

Last time I went to GB I didn’t need to show my passport. As for ukraine, moldavia and belarus, they’re who I was referring to as far eastern. Croatia is part of former yugoslavia. You’re right about macedonia, on the map it looked like they belonged with yugoslavia as well at first glance
Reason we don't need it in America is because if we drive three hours, we are a few cities over. If you are in one of the European countries and drive three hours, you may be in another country.
