Cellphone cameras are very different from old school cameras so they can take getting used to for older generations. Not stupid, just used to different tech.

Your parents had to teach you how to use a spoon. You don't really have any room to talk about who's stupid.
I get that smartphones are new tech, but self portraits are older than photography itself. Besides, they didn't say he was using a smartphone; I don't use a smartphone for photography.
That is good for you. Glad you don't use a smartphone for photography. Does this mean you have never used a camera ever on a smartphone? On top of that, who taught you how to use a simple camera?
I use my phone camera, but for snapshots, that's not what I call photography. For photography, see my profile pic. And I taught me how to use a fully manual SLR, along with some books. That's where you got your info in the pre-internet age.
Okay, but seriously, who considers a "selfie" photography? It is different from a self portrait. A selfie is specifically taken with a smartphone, it is actually in its definition
Okay, so you were not shown the knowledge. That was pre-internet. This is during internet. On top of that, I am not really aware of any books that teach you how to take a selfie. And older people tend to panic with technology. My parents do. I get calls often about how to do stuff. So having them shown how to do something is helpful, and is the polite thing to do. Thr man may have just gotten his first smartphone, and had no idea how to use it. His child was kind enough to show him how. It allowed them to bond over something fun for the two of them. You have no idea the circumstances, and decided to be an ass about it.
