Because their hair actually protect them from sun and heat. Siberia can be quite hot on summer and huskies are neither poodles nor polar bears : their fur get lighter on spring. But I agree with OP : don't get huskies, samoyeds or any other sled dogs if you live in hot areas.
Or a fucking timber wolf. I live in a desert and the use to be a woman down the street with a friggin Timber Wolf, as an ARCTIC timber wolf with a multi layered super hot coat. She could only walk him at night during the Summer and even then he was miserable.
I've heard around from different dog owners that even huskies and other long haired dogs can adapt to warm just like humans...but if it's been proven on either side can someone cite this? I don't have all the facts
Yes, it is true. But sill, those dog are happied when the weather is more temperated.

Seriously people. I have seen people roaming around with their Huskies here, because it's cool. But it isn't cool for them, idiots. Pick a different breed. There are so many.
EDIT: It's not a hot area year round but during summers it goes upto 40°C and also the climate here is humid. So that's one thing you know
Okay I found it

TL;DR Never shave your husky, he's double coated which helps him cool down in summer. Shaving him can actually cause a heat stroke. Same goes for Alaskan Malamutes.
Their fluffy coats will actually keep them cool. And never, ever shave a Husky, Pomeranian or any other double coated breed. It does not keep them cool, it does the opposite.
If you live in a hot climate, a more reasonable breed not to get would be a Bulldog. We had 2 come into my job with heat stroke this past summer and we don't even live in a super hot climate. They just can't deal with the heat since they can't breathe and regulate themselves, same for Pugs.

Preach! Same goes for Bernese Mountain Dogs. What's also messed up is to keep easily agitated dogs like Weimaraner or Ridgebacks in a loud and hectic city.
