I use a trap that shocks them to death, its never failed to kill them, and I've seen snap traps fail to kill to the degree that the mouse ends up losing a leg or tail.

If we anyhow have rats in our house, we do use the rat cage and then release them.
But if that doesn't work, then glue traps come in play
We use nature to beat nature
Our cats catch mice and eat them (they usually play with the nice before actually kill the poor thing though)
My dog catches mice too and he usually breaks the spine very smoothly, a clean death, no blood or anything
I had mice a couple years ago, I picked up some of those hav-a-heart traps and an aquarium. Captured 7 of them and took them to a woods a few miles away and released them. While I am in no way in support of PETA or anything like that, I just didn't feel right killing the mice for doing mice things. No harm in their intention so no harm came to them. Just live your little mouse lives somewhere else.
