Yes but support beams in walls aren't laid out like this, so all the kid has to do is keep growing then one day they aren't really paying attention 'cause they do this so often and the hold they grip/put their foot on peels away with a chunk of the drywall off and they tumble down the stairs.
You'd have to land on the steps in an extremely unlucky way to actually do any major damage. Also, if you know you are about to slip you can just look down and aim where to land.
I still a foam layer on the stairs or, even better, turning it into a ramp with foam on it, would make sense though.
