Fear of the unknown

Im not afraid of people with guns, I'm afraid of fast bullets!

I'm not afraid of falling. I am afraid of the sudden stop at the bottom.

That's not exactly true. Some peoples fears are not predicated upon the result of something happening or an extension of the situation. Instead since fears are not the result logical thinking they may instead be exactly as described. A fear of heights may not equal a fear of falling or the sudden stop at the end, but of merely being at a height, period.
