Actually- if he bought you water he likely isn't broke. Bottled water, mineral water, seltzers etc usually cost money and tap water is free. These waters usually cost as much as an equivalent soft drink- therefore someone "broke" either would not have money to buy water at all, or would likely not spend money to buy water when tap water is free and other drinks are the same or similar prices.
