I completely agree. I reject the practice that most men are raised to show no emotion or they will be considered weak. I guy my age committed suicide last Friday. His girlfriend, which is my long time friend, was in the kitchen with his 4 yr old son and he went into his car in the garage and took himself out. He was always smiling too. If a person is able to talk to someone without being belittled, they can learn the tools that help with coping with depression and feel like they are not alone.
Being a man, women, person, it's about knowing when you need help. Don't be ashamed to get help - you wouldn't be ashamed to get help when you have problems with education or finances, this should be no different. You're not weak for getting help - you're strong. You're stronger than you'll ever know.
It's okay to have a bad month, or year, or whatever. It's okay to sleep a lot because you're tired from the shit in your brain. It's okay to ask for help, be it a friend or a parent or someone else you trust (You're not annoying them. There are literally people volunteering to help others in situations like these, and your friends and family cares so much about you!). Show your feelings (It'll help a shit-ton, even when there are no feelings to show). Eat a real meal. Shower. Drink a glass of water. It's shitty for now, and yeah, it really, really sucks. But you can do it. And if you're not ready for the emotional shit, just take care of yourself. It's fine. Take a long bath, read a good book, do something enjoyable and calming. You'll have to talk about it eventually though, so ready yourself. It's not gonna be easy, I'm not lying to you, but it's going to be worth it. Just like most things in life
And I know it's an over-used term, but believe me, you are way stronger than you think.
