I had a professor who once decided to check because there was one particularly lazy person in our class who always did that. Props to my professor counting all the 923 words in my essay and then recounting it because I stated that I had actually used 925 words
All word processors come with a word count function. Also ctrl+A will highlight everything including any white text. It's a quick and easy way to check for slackers.
Be careful if you intend to create more length by increasing the spaces it becomes readily apparent rather quickly and some teachers will mark off for it.
I had to read a book in class that basically says that most teachers aren’t super concerned with the word count it’s just kinda there. Most of the time if your paper is exceptional it won’t matter that you were a few words off. But if your paper is shitty, then it just makes it that much easier to mark you down for it. Focus on quality over quantity.
