I wanna see a version w/o their help. That would be depressing... especially when he goes space pirate and just starts going loopy. Can you imagine a movie of him just getting looper and looper, breaking off communication with NASA and then he starts talking to a rock like it's Wilson, eventually tries a headbutt, cracks his visor and just dies there.
I guess if you MUST you could make his last moments loopy as fuck like he's been drinking salt water and it's all his interpretation of his own hallucination as he tries to tell SOMEBODY (the audience).
