I wanna see the person who called that ad racist under a huge rock. Don't come saying it would've been nice if the rock was lighter.

One notable critic was Chance the Rapper. In context to the commercial in question- a white woman next to an empty wine glass is looking somewhat unhappy and staring across the bar. The bar tender slides her a beer. Part of the complaint is that the beer slides past several black patrons and arrives at the white woman and then the phrase appears. I’m not saying I agree with the analysis- but that is more context to why certain people felt that way. Chance further went on to say that he thinks companies are intentionally making ads which coukd be seen as racist but aren’t overtly so in order to gain free publicity from the controversy and get views. Funny enough a celebrity speaking out on such ads would likely only play into that strategy and show companies it is a successful way to generate marketing for less cost. How much would they have to have paid Chance to speak about their product I wonder? Not saying I agree with that theory ether, but the idea is interesting.

Yeah I mean, unless it was done on purpose like the theory you mentioned, it is unfortunate that they chose only black models when that is the slogan. They could have used any other analogy

Honestly, it was sightly racist... just cuz of how the entire commercial is set up. It's not panty-twisting racist, but it's obvious how it could easily be misconstrued. Also, the fact that it's a german beer doesn't help.

I thought she was a Hispanic woman. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=U2wymLiEtxI I think it’s more overreaction.

While not explicitly racist, I feel like it could’ve been handled a bit better lol

Okay, I'm not a drinker, but why is a beer bottle next to a margarita glass? You don't normally mix the two, right...? Margaritas don't have beer, right...?

It’s part of the set up for the ad. In another version of the ad they use a wine glass. In that particular ad a sad lady is standing at a bar next to an empty wine glass and the bar tender sends her a Heineken. Of course things get better for her from there- but yeah. As for the beer margarita- it isn’t related but beer margaritas are a thing. There’s a type with beer added, and another that goes by several names like “Mexican bulldog” or “loaded beer” in which a beer bottle is placed upside down in the margarita and focuses into it as you drink. So while not traditional it is a thing.

I've never had a loaded beer but always wanted to try one... just for the shits and gigs; thank you good sir, I'm going to make a note of it and have one whilst visiting Galveston in a few weeks. We are renting out a condo on the beach, so I can just piss in the ocean! Yay! XD

My brother used to live in Galveston. I hope you enjoy the beach and the loaded beer, and the trip.

I saw this on the news and that was not the issue. The actual tv ad features dark skin models but bartender picks a light skin color girl. Now maybe it was coincidence idk. I'm not an easily triggered person, but the ad with that slogan can be taken badly.
