Tempered glass, a soft human will find it hard to break but any vaguely pointed hard object can cause it to shatter, plus the force of getting flung open and twisting forces... Yak yak yak.

Could he not see the door handles, the hinges suspended in mid-air, the gaps where the panes of glass meet??
