OMG I went and saw it the day it came out and every single scene I was whispering to my husband did you see that, did you see so and so, Oh MY GOD I had that toy as a kid, NO NOT THAT ROOM!!!
I FREAKING CRIED I DONT EVEN KNOW HOW MANY TIMES lmao it was all happy tears lol
Funny story when we rented iron giant from the movie rental store the ending was scratched up so about 2min after iron giant dies the movie stoped and we assumed it was over and we're all so sad and empty for like 2 hours (being unsuspecting 7 yr olds) that we didn't rewatch it for like 2 years until i was a t a friends and the movie kept going at it was like the happiest thing ever
The movie just didn’t feel high stakes like the book did. I felt like I was missing out on some suspense. That could’ve been from me having read the book before, but I’ve reread the book multiple times and I never had an issue with loss of suspense. 5.5/10
Just saw this yesterday in IMax 3D.
I knew almost immediately that when this comes out on bluray, I'm going to be abusing the pause button just to catch all the little visual references and characters and stuff.
I feel like if it was the carbon copy of the book, people would b!tch even more. That said, there were some differences that bugged me, but none that kept me from enjoying the movie overall.
Rosoo. Look at it like this:
They had to remove A LOT of the story to fit it into the time frame. Did they simply take a pair of scissors and cut it out though? No. They actively worked to restore as much flow to the story as possible despite their changes.
They removed a whole lot, yet it still made sense more often than not.
Personally I found it nice that they changed up the challenges. It kept it from feeling like a carbon copy of the book with no originality. That said I did miss the gates but that was for sure the fault of fitting it into movie length.
