I disagree, hearing is a very important part of driving. Hearing other people honk at you or hearing emergency vehicles coming can be very crucial. However, I still fully support deaf people being able to drive they just need to exercise extreme caution. Everyone should drive safely :)
I always hear them way before I see them and usually not even then. And then I'm constantly on edge wondering which intersection they'll pop out from when they're actually three blocks over running parallel to me so it sounds like they're a lot closer than they really are.
When I was a teenager , there were a lot of school friends that worked together at a restaurant. One of the guys was deaf. He could read lips and keep up with the conversation . We felt bad for him once the sunset and we were partying in a poorly lighted place. He was cool as hell ,but once it was dark and he couldnt see lips anymore , he would be withdrawn . Felt bad for him. He was a cool dude and he was a fine driver.
Nothing against the deaf but I wouldn't want a deaf Uber. Sirens are loud... you can hear them from blocks away and redshift can tell you their direction even when you can't see them.
Umm, that's completely against the deaf imo. There's a reason emergency vehicles have lights on them and the more modern (very recent ones) have a bass siren.
