I mean, coming from Japan/some other parts of Asia, this is really pretty much as vanilla as it gets.
Let's not forget the decently popular series about a boy who changed genders anytime he came into contact with cold water all because he fell in a pool some girl died in years ago. His father, on the other hand, turned into a panda, which is the gender I'd personally like to identify with.
There's also fruits basket where the people handle hugs from the opposite gender worse than most, and respond by turning into animals.
Branching out a bit, there's Hatoful Boyfriend, which is actually more charming than it sounds, but at the surface is literally "you're gonna play a dating simulator, except everyone but you is a bird."
And these are just well-known franchises.
There's also the bizarre little novella "Love with creatures," where your end goal seems to be dating a grass-hopper girl, who is definitely more insect than human. And we just won't talk about the other characters..
I watched one weird Asian movie once; I say Asian because it was a silent movie so I couldn't tell the language. Anyway, it was about a guy and his dad. The guy didn't have a willy so he couldn't have sex with his girlfriend. Only by self-harming could he climax. So his dad, after years of feeling sorry for him, donated his willy to his son as a transplant. The son immediately went to have sex with his girlfriend but, strangely, the father would climax too, even though he was nowhere nearby. Then the father decided he wanted his willy back. He confronted the boy and his girlfriend, tried to sleep with the son's girlfriend, and she shot both of them and then killed herself.
I was thoroughly confused after watching the movie.
"An anime television series adaptation by J.C.Staff is scheduled to air from July 3, 2018 on BS11 and other channels."
Well you won't have to wait long apparently..
Though given they were forced to change genders against their will, and the situations female anime characters tend to go through, I could see that leading to quite a few tragic circumstances
