Most natives that where enslaved by natives had it more like indentured servitude. If a clan adopted them they would be under its protection and anything done to them would be an offense to the clan and be reason for retaliation. It would effectively make them as much a part of the tribe as anyone else. Most natives never cared about color or race as a culture. A lot of tribes held the philosophy of being (tribe name) is something in your heart and mind not your blood.
sources? for example, Aztecs only kept slaves as blood sacrifices. Mayans used them for sacrifices and for construction work (building temples). Methinks you cast too a benevolent eye on Native American civilizations.
Sources: living in the capital of the Cherokee nation, speaking to many of the elders, leaders, and historians for my whole life, speaking to many other Indian tribes' elders, cultural leaders, and historians in America on conference trips for since I was 6.
Also I said "most." The Cherokees at one point a long time ago in our history revolted against the religious leaders (commonly called medicine men in English) as they were doing sacrifices after having just passed "a tribe of sun worshiping people that sacrificed to their gods in tall buildings -the closer I can remember to one elder's wording", which many believe was the aztecs, during the one of the many migrations.
Edit: also a lot of the Aztec sacrifices were lower class citizens, not their slaves.
Groups that are enslaved are usually dehumanized and, or marginalized. It's not entirely the fact that blacks were slaves, it's the way they were looked at and treated while slaves, and those same views and feelings lingering after their slavery ended.
indeed. colour, as a notion of inferiority, was just an excuse for enslaving them in the first place. sadly, slavery continues under other forms today. preying on the weak and the vulnerable.
Not true: the racist view was not that they were inferior, but that Africans were better suitable for manual labour, easy to control and thought to prefer living outside. Robust and Stupid. Like some breeds of cattle are better for milk some are better for meat.... White people of low classes were looked upon the same way. It's just that they were thought to be less efficent slaves. The truth is that our overlords think they are superior to everyone independent of our race. We are like cattle, sheep or hens to them. Don't buy into racism or sexism. It doesn't help to be SJW. The only people who profit are the real opressors : the 0.001 %
Yeah all of this is true, however this doesn't mean racism doesn't exist. Slavery was not a result of racism (although that's debatable Europeans really didnt see Africans as humans) racism resulted from slavery. When an entire country treats a race as property for 200 years they begin to think of them as lesser. It becomes ingrained and it takes a long time to get out.
Idk man
Chinese were up our, the Vietnamese, asses for over a thousand years. They were robbing our properties, killing our people, raping, selling children, taking away our education so the whole nation became dumb and numb and easier to rule
And what is the result? We somewhat still dislike each other's asses and that's basically it
Invasions and wars have been going on since the very beginning between races and nations and different groups of people but for some reasons, idk, black and white people always make a really big deal out of it
I don't say racism isn't a big deal or anything
But it's always the worst with you guys (black and white)
You always say it's bc of slavery but lots of other places have been through way way worse and none of us has such a big problem with it as black and white in America
I'm not sure if this is just a compliment for Irish people, or, this being the Internet, a way of saying that it doesn't matter if they were enslaved because of those reasons. I really think it's the first one, but you never know.
They seem to have kind of just shrugged the whole thing off. Just gone "well, that was unpleasant. Another round on me, then?"
Not saying that's what black people should do, just that it also happened. It's also not really talked about a lot
First one
They're very attractive people (to me cause they fit my type)
And they moved on like we all did "shit happened in the past, let get over it abd build a better future"
Black people should tho
We fight for the present and the future
They should stop acting like they have actually suffered from slavery and got it worse than everyone else (ofc not all black are like that but you get the point)
I'm so sick of people making it a who has it worse pissing match. The effects of American slavery still linger. We are STILL suffering from racism. And some people, like you, still want to insist it wasn't that bad. That is why we can't just get over it.
The Irish were certainly treated poorly and suffered a form of indentured servitude under English rule, but this never reached the point of outright slavery. We Irish were never forced to breed to create new stock, we were not sold between brits like cattle, nor was it ever completely legal to kill us with 0 ramifications. Certainly for much of the 800 year occupation we worked without pay and generally lacked the right to own property, but this is slavery light at best.
No. We weren't bred and sold. We were just forced to work for little to no wahe. And weren't given food or shelter. Some say that in most places Irish people had it worse because they weren't given a place to live and had to live in the streets and starve. There's also the whole segregation fact, when Irishmen were denied shelter and food in restraunts and inns in many places as well. According to some sources the slaves really didn't have it all that bad in most scenarios and that the beating and splitting of families were just outliers. Just stating some of what I've read. Not condoning or minimizing what happened at all.
Africans were enslaved by the Arab world for around a thousand years but we don't hear them complaining about that... Ironically the worst racists I've had the misfortune to meet were originally from the African continent. Down vote all you want but they love playing the victim card.
But quite common in many forms. Sports teams are an example. The Boston Red Sox had a curse they blamed for not winning a championship for years and their fans reveled in the underdog status. After “breaking” the curse and going on to be very successful for several years the fans were not nearly as, well, fanatical.
No, some humans misused a religion as an excuse to justify their actions. Others misused science to prove how Africans were inferior. Humans in power will say or do or use anything to remain in power and justify their decisions to the masses. And as has been proven throughout history it's always easier if you can get the masses behind you. Instead of trying to blame a specific group, probably because you don't like them, how about trying for the truth. It's not as nice when you have to blame everyone and human nature instead.
Just saying your argument is not very convincing when you say "I'm pretty sure". Especially when you lead with asking someone if they have ever done anything because then it appears as though you have not either. Just saying lol
