@silvermyth Didn't even know it was a painting. And I'm sorry, but you literally posted something a few hours ago that contained both a photograph and some artwork.
You failed to credit:
-The artist
-The subjects
-The photographer
And that's not including the original content creators, websites, and myriad other photos you've never properly credited.
So well done, your hypocrisy is in fine form for all to see.
Meanwhile, I see you ALSO have made no effort to help provide the name of the artist.
So, basically, you just came here to make yourself feel... superior about your own existence in some way? By bitching about a problem, providing no solution, and conveniently ignoring your own guilt in the subject at hand.
I'm not sure where that leaves us, but I'm sure you'll be offended by it.
My only suggestion now would be to climb down off that high horse before you fall the fuck off, and, if you don't HAVE the credit yourself, try doing something more productive with your time
Go to my post. Click view source. Done.
I’m an artist. I’ve had my art reposted without my permission before. I also tried to find the person who made the post. I couldn’t find them.
The solution is not posting art if you don’t know the artist. I wasn’t always good about that.
Are you even comprehending what you're saying at this moment in time?
Once again, and try to put your listening eyes on for this one, I did not know it was a painting when I posted it. And, once again, it's based off a real photograph-- looks like it may have even been directly copied and just slightly altered FROM that photograph-- which I have linked to in the comments.
As for your "source," I personally don't have the time or interest in this argument to scroll through that person's pages to find that image, but it doesn't negate the fact that YOU didn't include the actual artist's name on the post itself, or a link to the original artwork, which is variably what you want me to do. I'm not sure why you're setting the bar higher for others than yourself, but, I GUARANTEE that if we go through your thousands of posts, there will be other artwork featured that you failed to credit properly.
As an added note, despite what you seem to think, I'm not a perfect human being, and often times the things we post are usually from stolen content websites (aka: meme/image sharing websites) much like this one anyway, so it often doesn't occur to me to link to the source when the source is not, in fact, the source.
I found this critter while looking at wolverines on google images, but perhaps this is where I got the picture from if it helps you sleep better tonight: the pic on google images if you want a link to that. https://icanhas.cheezburger.c
Credit: unknown.
As an additional note, because there's so very much wrong with how you're choosing to go about voicing your opinion on this, here's something to think about:
If you, in fact, did look around to find the creator of this content on the Internet, and you, in fact, could not do so, then is it, in fact, *possible* to consider that maybe I could not find them either? I know this is irrelevant because you have an opinion you want to voice, and you've decided to deliberately ignore parts of what I've said, but if we go back in this conversation, you'll see, once again, the very first statement I made to YOU being "didn't know it was a painting."
Also, that's very awesome that you're an artist. Truly. And it sucks if you've had work taken and used without your permission. But you're not the only artist to have this done. This is literally why watermarks are created. And when I see people say they don't want their things reposted, I always try and respect that.
If you couldn’t find them, then don’t post. I used to not know or care who op was until someone told me I should. Now I’m more careful about that. It’s a cute picture. Maybe bother the funsubstance administrators to take it down and post the photo instead. I linked to the creator. The second image is almost certainly in the public domain and I assume op had permission for the first. Even if it’s a photograph it’s good to credit the photographer. I’m not trying to be hostile, I’m just telling you because for a while I didn’t even think about reposting.
At this point, I'm not even certain what you're hoping should happen.
You and the others have done your best to chastise me, repeatedly, and without acknowledging all of the facts, for sharing an image that at least 500 people on this site don't have a problem with. You've blamed me for an accident and tried to tell me how very wrong this makes me despite me trying to find a solution, and your own efforts to do so only cropping up AFTER I've pointed out the hypocrisy of their non-existence.
Are you wanting me to delete the post? Hire the fbi to track down the artist? Drown a village in a pool of paint to appease whatever art Gods I seem to have accidentally pissed off with this picture of a cute rodent?
I don't have a proper credit, cannot seem to procure one, and can do nothing but say I never claimed this image was mine to begin with. If you still are unsatisfied, unless sarcastic comments will make a difference, I don't see any way I can help you with that
@silvermyth I have no smaller words I can use to say this, so I'm going to try repeating myself one more time:
At. The. Time. Of. Posting.
I. Did. Not. Know. It. Was. A. Painting.
I understand that. Still should credit if you thought it was a photo. You should delete the post and post the photograph with credit. Even if you can’t see the problem with it, most people don’t like their stuff reposted without credit. You aren’t evil or very wrong morally.
Had to do a seperate comment because idk how else to make you understand that I didn't know it was a painting other than to say I didn't know it was a painting repeatedly. Either way, I don't see how I could know it was a painting when I didn't know it was a painting, but oh well.
Public domain has nothing to do with it? Public domain means you don't need their permission to post. It doesn't mean you shouldn't credit the artist... unless you feel their contribution is only worthy of credit if the legal system demands it be so. If that's your issue, then you definitely shouldn't be on websites with memes, because, as I said, most of the content-- especially from movies, actors and such-- is stolen and used without credit or permission, and you're going to literally spend your entire life arguing with people who post content like that.
Unless its only artists that use paint and pencils, digital software, or cameras to create still images that deserve credits, and the rest do not
That leaves models, actors, mucisians, directors, editors, and a whole lot of other people out in the cold, though.
At this point, I've tried to find the artist, linked to a copy of the photo it was based on, linked to a source at cheeseburger where the image was posted independently. That is pretty much all you've done for your posts, so I don't see how that isn't good enough to meet your standards.
If you're still upset about it at this point, then I'm sorry you feel that way
It looks like the art was done a very long time ago. Found it, it’s in wikimedia commons. I get that you didn’t know it was a painting. If you thought it was a photo, you should credit the photographer of the animal. You’ve found the photographer and that’s great, but you didn’t find the artist.
And neither did you.
And you've only credited it, properly, now that I've bloody well told you to-- just like you only tried to help resolve the lack of credit on this one after I pointed it out.
Can you, please, try and restrain your double standards at least a little? Or try and spread them out a bit more across other posts, because at this point it's just getting ridiculous.
Please come back after you've properly credited every single person and image you've ever posted on this site and then we can have a cup of tea. I'm done arguing with you at this point.
@creativedragonbaby it's still of a Long-Eared Jerboa, so idk what the problem is?
As a side note, whatever this is media format is seems to be very much based on a real picture, included here:
