I grew up in Texas and we had what we called baby spaghetti. Which is vermicelli pasta that came in a yellow box it was like angel hair pasta but cut to an inch long. It cost 10 cents a box. Than we took a can of tomato sauce which was 5 cents a can. We would boil the pasta, strain it once al dente, add can of sauce a swig of water in the can, and last a dash of Jane's Crazy seasoning mixx. Stir till boils than plop in a bowl and eat.
That was our struggle meals.
See when I was growing up breakfast was something you got at school and holidays. Lunch was something we had to get ourselfs once we reached 10.
But dinner was always this big meal with 3 sides and some kind of meat or casserole or spaghetti with salad and bread with butter or stew or stuff like that always hearty and filling.
