Yeah, Blue sounds like a bitch, wouldn't matter if it's video games, fixing a roof, working on a car , if she's not the focus of attention, then it's a waste of time. It does bother me when the kids ignore the dog for video games or tv though

What is the difference between playing videogames and reading or watching movies? Everyone has tgeir hobbies and ways if unwinding.

Maybe this will help define the difference: See- if you are a child, throwing a ball around and playing games- you are being childish. As an adult, sitting around on a Saturday night playing FIFA or Madden NFL is just as childish. I guess real men wait until Sunday, and pay money to watch other people play games instead of them. Spending $60 on a game disk, $20 on a Link hat or Driving around with a Kirby sticker, posters of elves on your walls? Very childish compared to $75+ for a Jersey, a team bumper sticker, posters of your favorite players, and $40+ to watch someone play one game. No- what adult woman would want a guy who has an online name like “N00b slayer” when they could have a man who paid to wear a shirt with another mans name on it? As you can see- when compared to other “more mature” hobbies, there is a clear difference between gamers and “real adults.”

In case it isn’t clear I was joking. As you say- who is one person to tell another what hobbies are or are not mature? Like you say, ultimately it’s about what you enjoy, but if we are judging maturity by hobbies, even relatively hard core gaming is no worse than most any dedicated hobby. Maturity is about many things, including how one balanced life and hobbies, what those hobbies are isn’t really relevant.

I have a bunch of buddies who are active military, specifically 81(b), who when they rotate home will play video games as a way to vent. I'm not sure where the video game stigma comes from but I'm fairly confident it's just immaturity.

if i could take all the time back that i spent finishing side quests in skyrim and fallout, i would. If I used that time more wisely I could be a concert pianist or speak fluent Finnish by now

True. If we add up the moments we spend in our lives just staring into nothing, or browsing the web and funsub, or any number of things, we could all have mastered several skills. Of course.... it’s good to be mindful that we are using our time as wisely as possible in this life, but we also must remember that who we are changes moment to moment. Who you were then was not someone who would think they enjoy being a concert pianist more than they would enjoy playing fallout- otherwise you would have been doing that instead. Perhaps you knew then and were unable to bring yourself to act on your desires, and that’s something to work on. Perhaps in an alternate world where you did those things you are speaking (in fluent Finnish) to a friend lamenting that you didn’t spend the time to play more games when you had the time before you were on tour with the symphony. Who knows. Each second of each day is a chance to make a different choice in life though, so who knows.
