There are buses. And if you live somewhere where your life and livelihood are on the line a lot, such as a bad neighborhood or a place wild animals are a threat or the cops take 45 minutes to come for a life or death emergency, a gun is DEFINITELY a necessity.
Proportionally, America also has more deaths caused by car accidents. There should be something done about that. In Norway, there are still guns. One can own a gun if one meets the proper requirements. Elk season means guns are out and in some regions the wildlife can be very intense so guns are needed to stay safe if something were to happen. Rest of the time they are safely put away. But we don’t just carry them around in our purse or on our hip. We haven’t had a major incident at all, excluding the Oslo and Utøya attacks. Now, semi automatic guns will be banned. We still have guns for what we need them for while keeping safety in mind.
Cars are dangerous - that's why there's requirements for who can have a license and it can be taken away from those driving recklessly. If cars aren't a necessity then neither are guns because there are plenty of alternatives to deter wildlife or home invaders. But people should be allowed to own guns just like we own cars. However, I've never heard of a situation so bad that someone needed an automatic or semi-automatic weapon to hunt an animal or defend themselves.
I would imagine that at the moment you fear your situation enough that you need a semi automatic rifle there’s something more going on than muggings and home invasions.

I understand the second amendment to be intended to protect the populace from a tyrannical government. Ideally, it would have enough allowance to arm citizens with weapons that can be used to fend off the government's military.
That's a situation that calls for automatic weapons.
it really does. though rebellion from a tyrannical us government is tricky to think about. its not going to be civilians vs the whole us military but i dont think civilians are going to be winners, nor would i want them to be as civilian victory creates a power vacuum that isnt easily filled which creates more chaos
You can't debate gun control if you can't breathe. I'm still on the fence about the straw thing but I'm glad we're taking environmental action more seriously
