Way more to the story. I am not saying it couldn't happen, but they gave them part of the money and he spent it on drugs and then it was a whole crazy story...
Yeah I read into it. Apparently he has a opium addiction and they first did give him money out of what they could take out at first and instead of him buying food clothes and a place a hotel room or what ever he spent it all on drugs. So they used a money manger to give him only enough to get by on. He was given a RV to live in on his land but it is in their name so he can't sell it same for a cheap car and they buy him food and clothes. A comes from his money.
Their trips are all on thier own money. The husband even admitted he once did use 500 but put it right back. They plan to slowly give him the money once he proves he is clean and can hold a job which will further prove he is sober and ready for the actual cash.
Till then they pay for everything for him. He is gripping about it because he wants it all instantly but they want him to get better. So people's money don't end up in drug dealers pockets.
They even admit it seems wrong but they just has his best interest in mind.
Seems like they'd be better off giving it to a homeless shelter or a homeless family that is already off drugs since this hardly gives him any real incentive to get clean, but at least they're trying
The homeless man gave the wife his last $20 for gas when she was stranded. She and her husband decided to launch a gofundme to show their appreciation. I don’t think they knew he had addiction problems at the time but said that giving him the money up front would be like enabling him to kill himself by overdose.
Haven't read about this yet but crowd sourcing money for a complete stranger is bizarre?? I can't imagine they spent any time at all getting to know him first and didn't pick up on drug use??
Is he in treatment? If he never gets clean are they gonna still take care of him? How long does he have to be employed to be Sober Enough? Does dude even WANT to get clean or are they just trying to bribe him into it??
Ofc he's gonna be upset, getting that much money then have it taken back bc the couple realized they goofed? They'd help soo many people by giving that money to actual charities instead. Or could just refund the donations.
/end unintentional rant
Update: I Googled it, the couple sound sketchy as heck. They kicked him off the property and kept the money in their personal savings accounts. He's suing them and GoFundMe is investigating them for fraud, which like... it kinda is.
