Money... there is no talent in this. And it isn't even money. It's two servos to cover the eyes and a servo to drop the shield. She can't walk around after this. It's all for a 10 second show. Yes I'm salty. I actually spend time on my cosplay.
Well I didn't mean this cosplay specifically, just any really good/accurate/impressive one. I think makeup artistry is insanely impressive and the way some of these costumes get made (especially the homemade ones) is phenomenal.
And while I see where you're coming from, even so, the mask isn't the only part of the costume from the looks of it? Maybe she did just buy the whole thing, idk. But someone had to put it together either way and I can appreciate the end effect. A lot of features in cosplays are insanely impractical and just for show (hydraulic wings come to mind. Or wings in general. Let's not even get started on mermaid cosplays)
I sadly don't have the time, expertise, or money for these kinds of costumes either way. What kind of cosplays have you done if you don't mind me asking?
I didn't mean to come away as a jerk. I also believe makeup artistry is and can be amazing. I tend to stay away from props. I do understand that there is a segment that is moving in that direction. And I'm not some guy adjusting his onion belt and shouting at the sky. Over the years I've gone to various Cons as a Viper pilot(from the 1980's Galactica), Boba Fett (that's a helmet and a tunic), Rocky Balboa, Robin Williams character from Jumanji. I even did Tony Danza from Taxi. But nobody got it. They thought I was an Uber driver from NY.
No you didn't come off as a jerk at all, I wasn't trying to imply that haha. I get where you're coming from completely.

I've seen people work for literal weeks on costumes and then someone shows up in a stormtrooper outfit they bought online and it's like "that's great, but can we just appreciate the fucking work that went into this other costume for a minute or twelve?"
Some of the best cosplays are extremely simple and don't even require props (or much of them, anyway).
At least your ideas were unique from the sounds of it. It's a downside to playing older characters or ones with less identifiable features to mark them as unique I guess-- you're almost always bound to get mistaken for someone else, or nothing at all.
Then you have one of my previous coworkers who was at a convention just to look around and everyone thought she was supposed to be Amy Fowler from Big Bang theory. Problem was she wasn't in any costume at all

If you guys are into cosplay can I ask you some questions? I'm currently making a bloodborne hunter cosplay but I'm having a little trouble with the part of the costume.
Which part? It's mostly just belts and a cape. You need a kerchief for the face mask . If it's the helmet that you are having trouble with, good luck.

I have a plan for the hat don't worry. It's just I have no clue where to get the vest. It's definitely made of leather which means that's going to be pricey so I'm considering making my own but have no clue on where to start.
First off, that sounds awesome! Bloodborne is such an amazing game.
Now to the more serious bit, By vest do you mean the part with all the buckles going up the middle? If so, I'd defer to this_isntme since they seem to have a good deal more cosplay experience than I do. But that being said, what you can do depends somewhat on a few factors:
How much you're willing to spend vs how much effort/time you want to put into it (even if you make it yourself there's still the cost of materials to keep in mind which can, potentially, add up quickly) and also whether you're planning on taking the coats off at any time
If you're planning on leaving the coats on then you don't have to worry as much about what the sides/back of the vest look like because literally no one will see them.
(Continued, just not finished typing yet)
For example, from what I can tell this guy didn't really go with leather at all

(Whether you're a fan of the materials he chose or not, it gives you a starting point to see what I mean)
To me, it looks like he's wearing a cotton shirt/vest of some kind and has several belts wrapped around.
Or, potentially, cut off and sewed on. Which is a possible option for you as well-- find a vest you think would work (it doesn't have to be real leather, it can be faux-leather or a different material altogether. Given how dark and dirty the costume and world are overall, you can likely pull off some other material without issue), and then find several of some kind of belts of buckles you like that are large enough to fit around your torso comfortably. Or cut them off/modify them and sew them on to the vest as you see fit. That would be my first thought if I were attempting to do this cosplay homemade personally
Steampunk is something worth looking into since they tend to sell a lot of clothing with buckles and such already, so you may be able to find either a vest ready made that would work, or at the very least the components for it. They also would have tutorials for how to attach buckles and such to clothing if you needed expertise in that area
That linked to a bunch of them, but I could easily see several on that page working!
Steampunk tends to be one of those categories you don't think about unless you're thinking about steampunk haha. But it does have a lot of the components from bloodborne, which has a somewhat steampunk vibe, particularly in some of the weapons
I really hope one works out for you-- it's such a cool character design!

For example with a little potential stain work I could conceivably see something like that working, though that one is entirely too expensive I would think.
