I think it would be considered unethical to allow the population to get too large after one or two *snaps*. We would learn to limit the population growth and it would be fine. One of the biggest indicators of a successful nation is a population that isn't growing nor shrinking.
BOIIII! If the size is not in question, than the amount of resources would also be out of question, since there are enough planets to provide whatever resources needed. Especially if we take into account the possibility of the universe still expanding and forming, and how little may be actually discovered.

So, our observable universe is finite, and the matter that we have is finite. Our universe expands. but that doesn't mean matter is being created, it means the space between large chunks of matter is getting bigger. So the size doesn't matter for resources fighting. What does matter is how much resource is in a place, there are two galaxies in current mcu. Milky way and andromeda. they're both pretty big. so the question is. did thanos kill 1/2 of everyone in the universe or just the two galaxies. and if the whole universe, how petty is thanos on a scale of 1 to tailgating someone for driving slow.
Thanos could easily double the resources, but he doesn't want to. When he didn't have the power to double the resources, his proposed solution was the kill half the population. People ignored his advice and his species was driven to extinction.
Thanos wanting to kill half the population is to verify that his original idea is a working model. It's vanity in a way.
That has been asked by a ton of people, but the simple answer is no. Infinity stones may be powerful enough to destroy stuff, especially the Power stone, but they can't create matter from nothing. Why couldn't Thanos come up with a different solution though, is beyond me.
I posted it in another comment, so I'll repost here. As for not being able to create matter, the gauntlet is perfectly capable of that. The reality stone can simply create an area where the law of conservation of matter and energy doesn't apply to create an infinite source of matter and energy. Add the infinite energy from the power stone or even just making a new law specifically to create matter, and you are perfectly capable of doubling the resources. One of the reality stone powers is to make 2+2 equal 5 too, so it's hard to argue otherwise.

Original comic Thanos is in love with Lady Death so he just wanted to present the death of half the universe to her.
In the movie situation, while this is not presented, if he were to simply double the resources, there would be no problem to be solved - Thanos would be a good guy instead of a maniac.
Dear guest, please read the other posts before spouting nonsense. The post immediately before yours explains exactly why Thanos did was he did and it wasn't what you stated. Thanks.
