That is what your wheel is connected to. That is what your brakes grab to stop you. See brakes need a special pad to grab a hold of that plate shouldn't look like THAT. See they obviously have trouble stopping. Chances are they have to put on the brakes a whole block away so they can stop. New breaks stop instantly. So in other words if a kid popped out in front of this car they will be unable to stop and they would mow the kid down.

Perhaps I should clarify. I understand the basic mechanics of an automobile brake, but I don't know why the disc wore down in this fin-shape instead of evenly down. If anything, wouldn't this make the brakes even better because the deformed fins would jam against the pads?
