No. They can be loyal, trained to come when when called or do tricks, trained to take walks, they can live 3+ years and bring joy the whole time. They are small, intelligent, and social. A hamster is not a disposable pet for teaching death or for people who “can’t handle a real pet,” if you actually take care of a hamster it is every bit as much a pet as any other. Hamsters don’t live long, especially compared to other rodent pets, but you can find that 3 years is enough time to fall in love with a furry friend more than you would think, and it doesn’t hurt any less when a hamster you truly love and bond with dies than any other pet. I’ve had just about every type of animal as a pet. Tea cup dogs to ones bigger than most people (bred them too- correctly.) cats, birds, reptiles, all manner of rodents, horses, fish, and assorted exotics and certain pets I plead the 5th on mentioning. And I still to this day miss my little ham ham dearly and I was an adult when I had her.
Also if my cat eats your hamster, does it mean I'm able to love death?
"Those who want to be loved get dogs, those who are capable of loving get cats"
it was worded weirdly
