Just to clarify, Gunpei Yokoi wasn’t a janitor who was ‘discovered’ while playing a beta-versión Game Boy that he invented when the president of Nintendo just happened to walk by. Yokoi actually worked several jobs at Nintendo, including janitor and assembly line worker before he had his big break. The ‘toy’ mentioned in the meme was an extendible arm gadget that caught the Nintendo president’s eye. Yokoi later went on to lead the teams that developed Metroid, Donkey Kong, and eventually the Game Boy after years of producing other winning inventions for Nintendo. Sadly, Yokoi tendered his resignation in 1996 after his Virtual Boy failed and was later killed in a car accident in 1997. You can read more about him here: (https://m.ign.com/articles/2009/09/10/from-janitor-to-superstar)
The way the ‘Sadly,...’ sentence goes it sounds like Nintendo killed him because the virtual boy failed. I’m not being mean, I just love how you can change the meaning of a sentence by playing around with grammar.

>Bat-Man
>“BATMAN!”
>The ”Batman”...
Very thorough! I also want to add just in case anyone didn’t know- Nintendo made playing cards but the market was weak. They tried all kinds of zany things to make money. A large part of the founding and success of Nintendo games was because of Yokoi. Nintendo games wasn’t initially very successful in the toy market. Toys changed too quickly for a company their size. Evolving their light gun toy concept Nintendo tried some more crazy ventures like video shooting ranges before they found video games had their own market. Once they began producing their own game consoles they decided to hire a student developer named... Shigeru Miyamoto, who went to work under Yokoi who had seniority and position. Yokoi is one of the primary people to credit for the invention of portable gaming- The game and watch was his idea, which led to the game boy. Yokoi held the philosophy that using simple and non cutting edge tech in clever ways was fun, a principal behind many of Nintendo’s successes.
