Genies are usually shown to be evil and twist wishes horribly

depends on the genie / which genre you have imho :) the old myths say they are devil, the newer stuff more like "they do stuff you did't intented", in child movies you even have nice genies.. but if you specific say "i want to have the power to grant my own wishes, just like you be able to fullfill my wishes genie.. but i don't want to be a genie".. it should work out. atleast better. even if you find a devil genie.. let your first wish be "i wish that you are not evil & that you are nice to me"..boom :D
OR another idea for the last wish: "i wish that you lose your memory of me".. boom 3 wishes are free again!
