I don't think it is a thirst to kill as much as the satisfaction of a ne'er-do-well getting his comeuppance. You take it as they just want to splatter some bodies, I take is as a "vigalante fantasy". Thinking about it and actually pulling the trigger are totally seperate things. You've never thought about making someone's face into a hamburger after they do something stupid? I have...I never would but it's fun to think about.
And as far as @famousone, combat is ugly business...violence kinda has to be his schtick in that line of work. If someone is trying to take your life or the lives of your friends, you don't pout and write a strongly worded letter about how offended you are. You do what is necessary to stop the threat.
